How much luggage can you bring on Malawi Airlines?
Your booked fare and itinerary determine your luggage allowance.
Allowances are not always identical across all flights. The airline may distinguish a small personal item from a cabin bag; checked bag limits can depend on both weight and number of pieces. Codeshare and connecting journeys may involve additional rules.
Carry-on bags and personal items
Before arriving at the airport, check whether your ticket includes an overhead cabin bag in addition to a smaller personal item. Consider both maximum dimensions and weight. A bag that is accepted on one aircraft may be restricted on a smaller connecting flight.
- Measure wheels, handles and external pockets, not just the main case.
- Review cabin bag weight alongside the size requirement.
- Check the policy for extra items such as a laptop bag or handbag.
- Confirm battery, liquid and security restrictions for your departure airport.
Checked baggage limits and fees
The included weight or number of checked bags depends on your Malawi Airlines fare and journey. If your allowance is not included, purchasing a bag online before the airport may be different from adding it at the check-in counter. Review the airline's current price list for your route.
For connecting journeys, check the baggage rules of the operating airlines and whether bags are checked through to your final destination. Keep your baggage tag until you receive your luggage.
Sports equipment, musical instruments, pets and batteries
Items outside standard suitcases can require approval or special handling. Sports equipment, instruments, mobility devices, pet carriers, liquids and batteries may be subject to different transport and safety rules. Contact the airline before departure if your item needs additional arrangements.
Check the item-specific rules before you buy or change your flight.
Confirm whether advance notice, an extra fee or separate check-in is required.
Retain receipts and item details if the airline accepts special baggage.
If your bag is lost or arrives damaged
Report it as soon as possible through the airline's baggage assistance desk or official reporting channel. Obtain a reference number and keep travel and baggage documents. Different claim deadlines can apply to delayed, lost and damaged bags.
